Designed by a Legend, Played by the Legends of Golf Broadmoor Country Club opened in 1922, during a time of exponential growth in the interest in golf across the state and country. In a five-year period surrounding its construction, no fewer than 4 other country club golf courses were established in the Indianapolis area. However, what set Broadmoor apart from other local clubs was its course architect, Donald Ross, one of the most revered and prolific course designers of the Golden age of course design. Over the last hundred years, the original course design and features have remained intact. A few bunkers were lost as trees were planted and fairways and hole corridors narrowed in the 1960s and 1970s. But the routing, green locations as well as contours and surrounds are essentially all untouched. The latest work is the completion of a master plan originally provided by Renaissance Golf in the early 2000s for the course’s restoration. Under the direction of Bruce Hepner, the primary goal of the project was to restore the shapes of the existing bunkers, improve their drainage and to add short grass and teeing ground. Additionally, fairway/green surface mowing lines were revisited, and the tree management program was updated. | Broadmoor Country Club is a proud member of the Donald Ross Society | |||||||||
